Just a question, how low can a car go before defect notice or illegal?
Jay has said no lower than a coke can...
Any one shead some light on the subject?
Also how do the measure it? Is it from the bodykit or from the actual ride height of the car (ie lowered with springs/coils etc?)?

100mm ground clearance now in all states when laden(not including break-away parts.eg. fiberglass spoilers). Exception in the case when the manufacturer specifies it lower from the factory (some exotic cars).
100mm is about the height of a coke can.
On a lot of cars the lowest point is the muffler/exhaust.
Other thing to remember is if your defectible your car is NOT insured. ie. insurance company can knock back any claim. They will happily take your premium but may not pay a claim.

I don't make the rules but my understanding is that you can have part of the body kit lower than the 10cm and still get away with it. The whole body kit can't be lower than the 10cm. Remember it says break off bits under 10cm. I don't think you could argue that side skirts break off, just under spoilers front and/or rear. If the body kit was the whole bumper section to the ground then I doubt you could argue its break away would need to be a seperate lower piece. There isn't anything to say the car can't be lowered just not so low as to go below the ground clearance requirements.
Besides if the car is slammed right to the ground what happens when you hit a pothole, go over a speed hump, try to go into a driveway or even just hit a minor bump. Sydney roads aren't exactly billard table smooth. Mind you the M7 is nice.

They start at about $3,000 + installation. Makes $2,000 for coilovers look not that bad.
