Always something special on Mugen site... I suppose 107kw of power and 186 Nm torque is not bad for the power / weight ratio of a Jazz...
Good find blk.

Did anybody notice on hte video that the supercharger looks to be run by a clutch type pulley? Like an air cond. clutch where you can turn it off and on???

Superchargers are belt driven and don't run all the time just as turbos don't. The charger kicks in at a certain point. If you had a charger or a turbo why would you want to switch it off all together?

I always thought that superchargers ran all the time. If you 'turn off' a supercharger I would think that it would stop airflow into the engine as the impeller is not spinning and there-by blocking the airflow into the engine.

During typical driving conditions, the engine is under boost around 5% of the time, which means the remaining 95% of the time the engine is under vacuum, allowing for better fuel economy and a quieter ride.
So a charger actually sucks more than it blows. Great thing about chargers is no turbo lag.
A bypass valve allows air to flow through to the engine without spinning up the turbine. That little turbine inside can do up to 60,000rpm - amazing.
