Dunno whether it's because I'm being paranoid, but my engine seems a little loud compared to my friend's older car.
It sounds like old car noise where engine makes "ticking" noises. Maybe because of synthetic oil? as I heard engine oil makes the engine quieter (or something like that)
Could it because I use to do high revs on cold engine (this was like during 3-4k miles to the clock, bad idea i know, i don't do it anymore)

I used to have the same feeling when I first got my car...my car engine ticking noise is always louder than others... I even called Spoonie out to compare the noise.. I even notice my induction noise is louder than others..
I brought it back to the technician and he said it is normal and asked me not to worry too much and just enjoy driving it... After since I tried not to be so paranoid and just enjoy driving it...
Having said that .. doesn't mean that applies to you, kentris.. How old is your car? How many Kms have you done? Manual or CVT? What oil are you using? When was the last service? Any recording of the noise?
I also regret revving too high in the first few hundred Kms and resulting the engine being noisier than others.. (that's what I thought ;D ...) but it is history now.. nothing can turn back the clock..
Also, 4 cylinder engines are always noiser than other bigger engine such as V6... I find that Synthetic Oil seems to quiet the ticking noise a bit.. advice only to change to Synthetic only after 10,000km.. You can certainly give it a try.. It could also be your tappets need adjusting.. depending on how many Ks you have done..
If it is a real big concern to you... can always bring it back to Honda to verify...

Well, car isn't that old la. Only from April and I caned it and high revved it pretty much from brand new (stupid me). 1.2 and a manual with ~9100miles to the clock.
Car brand new so service is in for 12,500 miles or in April.
I asked my mechanic friend and he it is fine since it's just the injectors making the noises.

I can't hear any ticking noise during cold start, however, when the engine is being warmed, I can hear the ticking noise obviously (not as loud as my previuos S13). I tried to compare it with my friends 05 jazz, they didn't have this noise. I thought it was my problem. I seldom hi-rev it but if I wanna hi-rev it, I will make sure the engine is being warmed up and from constant mid-rev to hi-rev... I found this ticking noise when I bought it from the first owner. but overall to say that it doesnt cause any high fuel consumption and it still retain 6.3-6.5L/100km. my current mileage is around 45.5k km. I will change to Shell Heliv Ultra 5W-40 when it reach 50k KM. I presume the engine would be abit louder coz current oil is 20W-50.

If you stick with genuine Honda oils and lubricants and change your oil every 5,000km with city driving (considered extreme usage conditions) you get no problems with any Honda car or bike. Your not saving on oil if it costs an engine, transmission or a major mechanical failure.

how many Km do U recommend me to change the oil if Im using 5W-40 Shell Ultra? some of my friend said such a "thin" oil should use around 4-5000km, but another friend of mine said just normal 10000km is ok~~ Im still doubting whether I should change it now since it's 45500km already~ or should I wait till the next service at 50000km~ any comment guyz?

Talked to the mechanic and he said that the Synthetic Oil can last at least 10,000km or longer.. but I still inssit that he change my oil very 5000km...
Depending how you drive basically, the way I drive, I do my own change every 5,000km in between the service interval. Occasionally, I I will take out the dip stick and look at the level of the oil and the color of the oil... rub the oil with my 2 fingers and sniff to see if the oil has any burnt smell.. or degraded smell... That's just me nick..
I believe if you are using Shell Helix Ultra 0W-40, just still to your Honda recommended service interval..

I guess I'll have to get a recording of the engine to show what I mean.

Kentris, Have a listen to these.. When my Jazz was pretty new, I think less than 2000km, the ticking and tapping sound of the engine was very loud... If you have this sound, I guess it is normal, it just take time to run in (please note that this could be recorded when the bonnet was open.. I cannot remember) Engine tapping and clicking sound when new (114K in size)My car has done about 16,000km now and this is how it sounds like... (please note the sound is recorded when the bonnet is close, I just quickly recorded just now..) Even though it still has some clicking sound but overall, it is very little and I believe it is normal... Current enigine sound (457K in size)Hope this help...
