I have been using Shell Helix Ultra fully synthetic for some time now... The car has done about 15,000km and I am planning to do another oil change this weekend.. I am thinking of using Castrol R Synthetic due to the fact that.. it is cheaper... ;D and if I am going to change the oil every 5,000km myself.. Do I really need those expensive Shell Helix Ultra Synthetic which Ferrari uses or something cheaper should do the job? Question I have: I've heard ppl saying that if you use one brand.. stick to it... changing to different grade or brand will not do the engine any good... Is that really true? I know changing mineral to synthetic and then back to mineral will not do the engine any good.. but if I change different brand... I should be okay right? Anybody has any comments or experience about this? Cheers... Pitty we don't have this one here.. anyway...

Weird... no reponse from anyone???
Anyway, after talking to a few people around and getting their opinion, I've decided to go ahead with the change from Shell Helix Ultra to Castrol R.
I pick up a 5L of Castrol R Synthetic for $38, cheaper than Shell Helix Ultra which was like $55.
Change the oil yesterday.. The old oil was a bit dark.. (only did 5000km for the old oil and it is already so dark..hmmm..)
I left the old oil dripped for 2 hours.. and finished the job in the evening.. I started the car and I can hear some tapping noise.. after the car warmed up.. the tapping disappear.. should be any issue..
Took the car out for a spin and I was amaze the rev response I got from Castrol R.. after all, I think Castrol is a thinner oil... The car runs good and much more revvable than before.. I was on manual mode CVT and changing gear... The next thing I know, I was already on 4000rpm easily...
So.. there you go.. Happy with Castrol R and work out cheaper if I am changing oil every 5000km.

The best oil for any Honda is real Honda branded oil but not the crap that Honda Australia serves up. The stuff Hannys Performance uses is excellent (if I lived in Melbourne I'd drive to Hannys to have my car serviced because they are just that good). With oil being the lifeblood of a car and more particularly on Hondas saving a few dollars to the detrement of the 2nd most expensive asset you own seems silly to me. In a bike its even more critical as the same oil services the transmission as well as the engine.
Why is it with so many excellent Honda oils Honda Australia doesn't bring in the good stuff? I suppose thats just Honda Australia to a T.
If you properly drain your oil I can't see how you could possibly have any issue changing your oil type. Alot of people like to use natural and semi oils when new and then switch to a fully synthetic once the car has got a certain about of milage on it. Personally just run a full synthetic from the 1st oil drop at 1,000km.
If you think the Castrol is an improvement try Mobile1.
I've tried all different oils in my Honda bike over the years. Mobile Racing 4T leaves all the other regular brands and types for dead with the exception of Honda oil. The Ultra High Performance Honda Motorcycle oil is better than 4T but running a batch of specially imported Honda racing oil at the moment which is unbelievable. Revs to the 12,500rpm red line almost faster than you can shift through the gears and have to hold the front end down on takeoff.
