As with any lowering depends how low you planning to go.

I think maybe the standard 30-35mm will probably best to get that sporty-looking ride, without it affecting your ride quality
I got a friend with a renault clio who lowered it by 60mm and damn, the ride is super stiff. Going over speed bumps hurts your ass and a nice bang sound with it too. Although if you're gonna go more than 40, I think coil-overs are best for that?

i've got 17" on my jazz too. it really depends on the offset of the rims. if its too much then expect to hear some scrubbing. u can roll the guard but that wont help because what rubs it is the plastic joints between the body and the rear bumper. when u lower your car with springs you will camber the car (tilt). and after 1 year or so, you will start to notice your tyres are looking abit uneven. and after 2-3 year your gonna get new tyres, and with ur rims being 17" u'll need 205/40/17R. they cost $130+ for cheap ones like silverstones. 1.5inch is a good drop. 30mm still looks high like a 4WD. remeber your rims are larger so your ride height will be higher. go 1.5 bro. with my insurance (NRMA) they only allow me to drop it by 30mm. and now ur probably wondering why da hell am i gonna lower it by 1.5' and still insure me? what you say is that "i bought these springs a long time ago and they have soften through the years" and they'll let you off (thats what many of memates say) with regards to alignments. dont worry, if u get springs u pay about $350 and they'll fit and do a wheel alignment. its all safe. and when you have $1800 in your pocket then get like tien super wagons where u can adjust the height and damper. but for now just get springs.
hope this helps dude

when U mention about lowering your jazz, U mean changing the spring or the whole set of suspension? someone told me that if just changin the spring may cause oil leak for your damper~ but it's all depend how low U wanna get ^^

so lowering it 1.5 inch, is the safe height to get the lowered look, yet still avoid all the aftermath of lowering? im not sure of the offset of the rims, does all that scary rubbing and stuff occur if offset aint right? that insurance thing, my jazz is only 3-4 months old.. reckon i can get away with the old springs excuse? what would happen if i didnt tell my insurance about my mods?

if u dont tell ur insurance company, then u have to make friends with ur smash repair so they can bullshit for you.. so u can still make a claim if u have an accident. but usually when u have an accident the smash repair will take a photo and email that to NRMA or what even ur with, with a photo u cant determine if u lowere ur car by 1" or 1.5" thats my 2 cents
