i thought the Honda oil is half half.
i'd stick to the Honda oil till warranty expires. i mean they're not that expensive anyway n i don't want any warranty claim refusal.

If your car is running on CVVT then you have to stick to Honda original automatic transmission fluid (ATF). Thats what I heard from my club.

Honda FEO is Semi Syn... (That's what I heard from Honda Australia.. and I haven't read the technical specs of the oil).
They should be good enough for everyday driving...
I've actually asked Honda to clarify if using non Honda oil will void the warranty.. after a couple of emails back and forth.. They finally clarified that as long as you use good quality oil e.g. Mobil1, CastrolR, Motul, ShellHelixUltra etc Synthetic oil with minimal requirement spec API SJ/SL and the recommended grade 10W-30.. They don't have an issue with that... and will not void the warranty...

Honda has a very full range of oils including full synthetics and racing applications just that they are not stocked in Australia by your friendly neighbourhood Honda dealer.

It you go to the oil manufacturer's web site and check their lube guide, most of them are in the 5W30, 5W40, 10W40 etc range... Doesn't seem to say much in the handbook though. I "might" put in the Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 when it's the time.
Castrol Formula R 5W30 is about $45 at Auto one. Shell Helix 5W40 is about the same.. Mobil 1 5W50 is $65...

Honda Ultra Gold is 5W-40 and 100% synthetic. 9,870yen makes it pricey.
Oh but Australian Honda dealers don't stock it or even know of its existance.
Mobil 1 is the best of the rest.

I will definately go for their fully synthetic oil if the price is about the same as others...

Your talking around $120 Australian for 4L of Honda Ultra Gold but if its anything like the high end Honda motorcycle oil I've used it really is that much better.

I think the Shell is a good choice... I've ran it in my last car and it was great. Felt no advantage paying the extra for Mobil 1 though (the KMart variant). It's funny that Honda doesn't recommend any oil in the handbook and the Shell, Mobil and Castrol's lube guide doesn't give a definitive viscocity range to use. Yes, the best time to use synthetics is around the 5,000 to 10,000km range. 5,000 if you know the engine mellows out and you've given it heaps on a regular basis. But I wouldn't start using it on a car that's done 60,000km. You remove too much crap from inside the engine and then start to have leaks. More so if it hasn't had good oils in there and changed regularly. My RAV4 has got 20k on the clock.. switched to Castrol Formula R 5W30 straight away. Haven't driven it for a week though to see the fuel saving effects.. Too much Jazz fun so far! hahaha! One thing reading the service book is that oil filter is changed every 20k though oil is every 10k???!!! How much are oil filters anyway to warrant a lesser change?
