thats bullshit.... all that tried before know... pod filter is the best to go... increase in response immediately.... Jazzpro, they are not talking about POD lah . they are talking about old and replacement filter... In short.. To put it as simply as possible, there’s no problem with the flow of the factory filter – even when it’s dirty. In nearly all cases it’s not the factory filter element which is causing the restriction. Instead, it’s likely to be the snorkel going into the airbox, or even the shape of the airbox itself.
Don’t start off by changing the filter; start off by altering the intake flow into the box.
yeah?? i didnt know... heheheh

u guys wanna know whether replacement filters gonna b good or not is easy... i ve done this once ... just totally take off ur oem air filter and drive without a filter for 5-10 mins.... at least u know the difference (that would b the maximum difference if changed to the replacement filter)... if u worry abt bugs that goes in (5-10 mins drive, wats the chances???), just get a piece of thin cloth and put in between of the oem air box before closing the oem air box i fu get wat i mean.....

K&N reckon in some of their blurb that they get better flow with one of their filters than without a filter at all. Also interestingly they claim slightly better flow when their filter is a little bit dirty than completely clean!

ic~~ I guess the air filter and muffler are crucial mod for NA car~ if U notice the sound from your engine bay while stepping the gas, U will hear some sort of light air intake sound~ (feel like a small intercooler sound) it's not very obvious but I guess if I use a good filter, Im sure it will make the engine run smoothly~

Also interestingly they claim slightly better flow when their filter is a little bit dirty than completely clean! read simota filter website.... they have done stringent test against K&N filter and the test was done in USA by a reputable company.... better flow? simota is better now... simota proudly claim that K&N used to be the best but not anymore....

Yeah the Simotas are cotton like the K&N not foam or other materials but they don't seem to do panel filters at all only the pods. In the pods they seem to have heaps more variety than K&N and some innovative designs.

with pod filter, the suction sound is clearer and louder... sounds nice.... ic~~ I guess the air filter and muffler are crucial mod for NA car~ if U notice the sound from your engine bay while stepping the gas, U will hear some sort of light air intake sound~ (feel like a small intercooler sound) it's not very obvious but I guess if I use a good filter, Im sure it will make the engine run smoothly~

Well I got a Spoon Sports panel filter. Pulled out the old filter which was quite dirty. Hate to think what my lungs look like breathing Sydney air.
Anyhow notice immediate difference. Takeoff alot smoother. Less throttle is required for all speeds. Throttle is more sensitive. Car revs faster.
For an improvement to be noticable it must be at least 10%.
So in the case of the Jazz this proves that at least a clean filter makes a difference to a dirty filter if nothing else.
I felt I've got more than my monies worth. If I lay off the throttle I'll get improved fuel consumption but its far too tempting to use the extra power and faster revs.
I'm not at all interested in an exposed pod filter especially as its not a legal mod (at least in NSW). Upshot of which is you could be knocked back on an insurance claim as policy can be deemed null and void. Vehicle could also be defected (not that too many cops would be interested in looking under the bonnet of a Jazz).
