I think a front brake upgrade would have a bigger impact than changing the rear drums to discs. It would be about the same dollars too.
The Jazz stock pulls up as well as my Swift GTi did which had 4 wheel discs.

The Jazz stock pulls up as well as my Swift GTi did which had 4 wheel discs. Ever tried changing the shoes? I'd vote disc anyday for the ease of changing the pads and also easy to check the conditions of the pads without much work. But $1k.. hmm... a bit rich... and also add to that cost an engineer's certificate.

Pulls up = braking distance in meters and Number of hard brakes before noticable fade or complete failure. Agree rear discs look good but the fronts do the bulk of the work particularly on such a light car. All depends wether your doing it just for cosmetics or increased performance. Its not as disproportionate as on a motorbike where the front brakes do something like 96% of the braking. As for shoe change on rear brakes got to agree discs are easier but drums aren't that hard. Try drums on a motorbike without a single sided rear swingarm.

I love the idea - its something I've wanted to do, however 1k would make it out of my price range.
I wonder how much it would cost to get these rear parts ripped off a crashed jazz from overseas..

I'm sure you could buy the genuine rear brake kit from Thailand for considerably less than 1K. No worries with taxes or duty with the free trade agreement.

Its obviously easier to do business in Thai but you'll find different dealerships have varying degrees of English - usually at least the senior management (who are the guys you want to deal with anyway). They'll happily sell to anyone who wants to buy. They aren't Australian dealers where getting out of bed in the morning is just too much effort for them. You would think they would find another occupation if they hate their job so much but I suppose its easier to stay where they are and p!ss and moune all their lives.
